Steward Machine fabricated machinery bases, four 10’ diameter fabricated Counterweight Sheaves with integral bearings, four new operating drums and a new, 50,000lb enclosed gear drive or the Murray Morgan Project. The counterweight sheaves were assembled with the bearings inside the sheave hubs. Steward Machine confronted the challenging designed interface fit of the bearing to sheaves, wire rope drums couplings and shafts with the “can-do” attitude making the project a success. The project won the State Historic Preservation Officer’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation awarded by the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and was named ENR Northwest’s Best Highway/Bridge Project for 2013.
